Radio Astronomy
The Radio Astronomy group has played a leading role in VSOP, the world’s first space VLBI project, focusing its energy on observation by HALCA satellite. HALCA’s mission lasted longer than expected; running for eight years and nine months before finishing its mission in March 2005.
The VSOP-2 project is a radio astronomical project based on HALCA’s engineering and astronomical achievements. This remarkably ambitious project aims to obtain an actual picture of the ultimate limits of the universe never before seen by mankind. The scientific satellite developed for this project has been named "ASTRO-G" which means the seventh astronomical observation satellite.
