High Energy Astrophysics

The High-Energy Astrophysics group is engaged in X-ray astrophysics research primarily using satellites. Since the 1970s, high-energy astrophysics has developed remarkably, proving that X-ray astrophysics is an indispensable tool to understand space, across all levels of celestial bodies ranging from degenerate stars (white dwarfs, neutron stars and black holes) to galaxies at cosmological distance.
This group’s satellites include HAKUCHO, GINGA, TENMA and ASCA. A successor to ASCA, SUZAKU was launched by M-V-6 in July 2005 and continues to make successful observations, attracting the world’s attention to its achievements.
