The Department of Space and Astronautical Science provides students with an opportunity for high-level education and advanced research through the theoretical study, the analysis of scientific data, and the practice of advanced R&D in Astrophysics, Solar System Sciences and Space Engineering. Students are expected to cultivate not only depth of knowledge in Space Science but also the planning skills for space projects by touching on the most advanced and complex space projects.
Desired Students
We looks for students that:
- have a strong interest in space science and space engineering,
- have basic academic skills, logical thinking ability, and an application ability to tackle unresolved problems,
- have communication skills necessary to learn and to investigate proactively in international research environments.
Basic Criteria of Applicant Selection
Applicants are assessed comprehensively on their basic academic skills and selected by means of screening of application materials including score of English test, written examination, and an interview (note: only by screening of application materials and interview, in the case of the Three-Year PhD Program).
In the interview, applicants are judged on:
- whether they set a clear motivation, a clear goal for the future and an appropriate plan for their research,
- have communication skills necessary for precise explanation and for discussion in research,
- have an inquiring mind and the willingness to investigate with enthusiasm.
