Adopt SSPA (Solid State Power Amplifier)

The transmitter to be used in MDSS has been decided. We will use a transmitter that uses semiconductors, which we had been conducting prototype research until 2017.

Although we used to use a transmitter using an overseas klystron (a type of vacuum tube for microwaves) at USDS 64m, we have developed a semiconductor amplification device using domestically produced GaN (gallium nitride) with the cooperation of NEC Corporation in order to improve maintainability and stability.

The photo below shows a 30kW class X-SSPA (X-band Solid State Power Amplifier) prototyped through prototype research. This device combines 384 PAs (Power Amplifiers with 125W output per one) with built-in GaN devices in multiple stages to finally obtain 30kW output. This is the world's first introduction of a transmitter that can obtain a large output of 30kW class in the X band.

We will start designing and manufacturing the product version with improved reliability from now on.
