Over 10,000 Participants --- ISAS Open House
The customary Open House of ISAS was held at Sagamihara Campus on Aug. 28 in spite of a bad weather. The campus was quite crowded with more than 10,000 participants though it was raining off and on since morning under the influence of a major typhoon. Mr. Soichi Noguchi, JAXA astronaut, joined this event to give a lecture to the public. As it was the last Saturday of summer vacation this year, every site was thronged with men and women of all ages who enjoyed not only the exhibition but also a variety of small experiments and discussions with ISAS people. They could find an X-ray astronomy satellite ASTRO-E2 to be launched next year, video programs, solar system simulation, space art, and Q&A classrooms. Water rocket campaign which has usually gained wide popularity among children had an enrollment of thousands of young people under the rainy weather. Mr. Noguchi kindly joined one of the Q&A classrooms, and responded a volley of questions by children.
