The Athena X-ray Observatory: scientific objectives and mission study

Dr. Massimo Cappi(Dr. マッシモ カッピ)
INAF/OAS Bologna

Athena is a large X-ray Observatory proposed to address the Science Theme "The Hot and Energetic Universe", which has been selected by ESA in its Cosmic Vision (2015-2035) program, with a launch date of 2031. After reviewing its core science goals, I will present the mission telescope and instruments, and will focus in particular on the outstanding performances of its on-board X-ray calorimeter (X-IFU), a natural successor of the Resolve calorimeter on-board the JAXA/NASA XRISM mission.
