Combined with Hinode and ground based observatories, VERIS will deliver simultaneous observations of the entire solar atmosphere from the photosphere to the multimillion K corona at subarcsecond resolution for the first time ever, allowing us to understand the missing link between chromospheric structures and the corona. VERIS will also provide definitive evidence on whether coronal loops are multi-stranded and impulsively heated or whether they are monolithic quasi-static structures. Finally, the scientific understanding from the VERIS data will have significant impact on the design of instrumentation on future high resolution solar missions particularly Solar C and Solar Orbiter. |
