Investigation of optimum landing area


Optimum landing area of spacecraft should be selected considering various conditions. For example, the landing area of the lunar polar exploration mission finding water ice has following conditions; close to water existing area, enough sunlit, visibility to the earth for communication, and flat area. Usually, an evaluation function which is a weighted sum of evaluations of conditions is defined and find the optimum solution by minimizing the evaluation function. However, the method has difficulty how to decide each weight coefficient and re-calculation is needed whenever the weight becomes different. Therefore, we propose multi-purpose optimization which select Pareto optimal solutions, namely a group of optimal solutions in some sense. We can only choose optimum landing point among them considering constraints of each mission.
