We briefly review the state of CVs in terms of the presence or absence of the magnetic
field of the white dwarf.  We show the effect it has on the accretion disc, which should
be formed by the material overflow of the Roche-Lobe-filling of the secondary star which
yield material into the potential well of the compact primary star. We show an example
of DW Cnc, an intermediate polar we have been studying in the last few years.
