 abstract of observational proposal
Combined with Hinode and ground based observatories, VERIS will deliver simultaneous observations of the entire solar atmosphere from the photosphere to the multimillion K corona at subarcsecond resolution for the first time ever, allowing us to understand the missing link between chromospheric structures and the corona. VERIS will also provide definitive evidence on whether coronal loops are multi-stranded and impulsively heated or whether they are monolithic quasi-static structures. Finally, the scientific understanding from the VERIS data will have significant impact on the design of instrumentation on future high resolution solar missions particularly Solar C and Solar Orbiter.

 request to SOT
OT should obtain a magnetogram before and after the VERIS launch and obtain CaII K images at a cadence of approxi 60 sec during the VERIS launch.

 request to XRT
XRT should obtain images of the target AR in a variety of filter before, during, and after the launch.

 request to EIS
EIS should perform a detailed raster before and after the VERIS launch and a rapid raster during the launch.

 remarks
The VERIS launch is scheduled for August 8, 2013 between 18:00-18:40 UT. VERIS will target the core of an active AR close to central meridian and will obtain both slot images and slit spectra over a period of 6 minutes.
VERIs requests that all Hinode instruments target the same AR (TBD 2-3 before launch).
EIS should perform a detailed raster before and after the VERIS launch and a rapid raster during the launch.
SOT should obtain a magnetogram before and after the VERIS launch and obtain CaII K images at a cadence of approxi 60 sec during the VERIS launch.
XRT should obtain images of the target AR in a variety of filter before, during, and after the launch.

Dr. Ugarte-Urra has graciously agreed to act as the POC and campaign coordinator for the Hinode observations. Please contact him for details of the observing programs.
